Default Need some chain advice

Ok... so when I bought my 96 f3 it had a -1 +2 setup. The chain is endless and I assumed it was still stock. Well When I bought a new engine I had the guy throw in some good looking STOCK TOOTH COUNT sprockets too. They have very little wear, and I feel fine using them (and I'm quite **** to be honest.) Here's the trouble. This chain that is still around my swingarm is endless and does not fit the sprockets. I'm not sure what the sprockets are, but I think they are from a 98 bike. Now... the problem with the chian is not the thickness, its the fact that the chain links/teeth dont line up properly. Like... maybe 3 or 4 will slide on, then the fifth will sit high, obviously wrong chain. I really doubt that it is stock. Both of these new sprockets have the same problem with this chain and the front one is stamped JAPAN and I'm pretty positive its one form honda. So... what's wrong with this chain? How much is a new one? What do I need?

You'll need a dremel to get the old chain off assuming you don't won't to remove your swingarm, a rear stand or some way to support the rear part of the bike in the air to remove the rear wheel, and a chain press for the master link if you use a press fitted master link. Um, chains can vary anywhere from maybe $100 or less to $170ish. Be sure to find out what size chain those sprockets are meant for i.e. 520,525,530.

Maybe the sprockets you were given weren't the right size?

Oh, and stick with an RK or DID chain.

speaking of chains and sprockets, is your chain supposed to have room to move on the sprockets? mine move, but probably only about 3-4mm in either direction. is this how it's supposed to be?
