When ur R/R dies on you its a good idea to check the rest of ur charging system components. When mine died at 40k i also had to replace the stator. Its also a good idea to inspect ur harness to make sure its still in decent condition aswell as ur connectors

How many different colors of wires are there between the 2 connectors ? 4 or less and probably yes. If one of the connectors has say, 3 wires and they're all the same color, and the other connector has only 2 wires of different colors, the it should work. Basically, the 3 similar color wires come from the stator, which is just 3 coils of wire. As the flywheel that has the permanent magnets spin inside the stator thats attached to the alternator cover, it generates AC electricity. That's routed to the R/R which converts it to DC and regulates it so that it charges the battery. Since all 3 stator wires are coils, it doesn't matter which wire goes in which position.

The other 2 wires are the positive and negative wires.

I'm selling my stock r/r in the "parts for sale" section. 100% working condition guaranteed!

Works like a CHAMP! Thanks for this write-up! Mods should move it into the how-to section. I was looking for one on this in there, and f3Biker pointed me this way.

I used an '07 Yamaha R/R, as well:

I threw some thermal compound under the heatsink, and rumor has it just locking it down with 1 bolt is enough. I'm in there enough to check it on occasion, anyway. The fairing fits on fine with the connector facing right.

Man, someone sure dug this out of the bottom of the box . I'm glad to see it's still helpful to some. BTW, I did replace my wifes a few months ago. Got a good deal on a GSX-R R/R and installed it too. One less thing to worry about.

I am using a 06 ZX12 R/R. You have to find what connetors go to pos and neg and the yellow wires go to the remaining three in no order. I got rid of my harness and ran the pos and neg right to the battery.
