My bike is surging / jolting / hesitant
1 Attachment(s)
So i have been building this 96 cbr600f3 streetfighter..She is a bad beast..But after I took the guages off and mounted an old school headlight, the bike surges sporatically. When i pulled the gauges i had to chop all the plugs that go into them in order to fit the harness into the headlight..I didn't really tape off all of the wire ends either. Is it possible that one of them could be grounding out? I just ran through the carbs, checked for vacuum leaks, checked fuel pump, changed the spark plugs, changed the fuel filter, so I know it has to be electrical. This would make sense because when it comes to wiring i have NO IDEA what im doing. My question is this: What should i check for in the wiring on the harness? Should i tape off all of these wire ends that i chopped? Thanks in advance for any advice!
I figured i would post a pic of the f3 im doing..I did the cbr600rr tail conversion myself..As long as you have a welder and some time its an awesome beginner's fabrication project! Attachment 40739 |
UPDATE:: So, i just tied off all of the wires that i chopped from pulling the gauges, and its still surging..I'm starting to think its fuel-delivery related..I just cleaned the carbs though, but i always thought routing of the fuel pumps on these cbrs are a bit weird..It seems to solely rely on the pump..if it helps, it seems to be very hesitant when in a higher gear at lower rpms.. I know that these bikes don't like that range but there is no power delivery whatsoever..it seems like a huge flat spot..The only thing i didnt do on the carbs was the mixture screws (the ones that require that crazy "D" tool)

What year is that tail? Is that a custom cut fairing? Looks good. Sorry can't help you on wiring. Haven't did a gauge conversion yet .

air solenoid bypass needs to be done if you are not running the stock gauges. that wont be very intermittent though, bike will run like **** above 12mph

Wow, thanks a lot!..This sounds promising! Do you have any details on how to go about doing this "air solenoid bypass"? If not, could you point me to a resource by any chance?
MRMANR - That tail is from an 05-06 cbr600rr..I had to cut, raise, and weld the frame into a higher position to get it to fit like that..If you have a similar bike and are interested in doing a similar swap, just PM me and i could give you details.. |
SOLVED::: Colorado Steve, you are a life-saver!!! That was indefinately my problem!..I just bypassed the air solenoid altogether and the bike runs great now! thanks a lot! i'm so happy right now!
