Default My 96 F3

Figured I'd introduce myself, as I finally got some pictures of the bike I just bought last week.

It is a 96 F3, with 30k on it. Ugly as sin, but runs great. Came with a Two Brothers slip on that sounds great to me. Already started working on fixing her up, I'm unsure if I plan on converting it to newer style fairings, ect. I do know that I am interested in doing the APE CCT, new header (any recommended brands?) sprocket/chain, paint (but that will be decided when I figure out if I want to do the conversion) DEFINATELY want to do the F4I gauge swap, its hard to tell how fast your going on those tiny gauges lol.

Decided to polish up the muffler, heres before, after, and on the bike pictures

Headlight had some overspray on it, and a little oxidation, hard to tell in the pictures, but it made a good bit of difference wetsanding and buffing.

So far the only maintenance I've done to the bike is change the oil and filter, and adjust/clean/lube chain. Plan on dropping the brake fluid, coolant, changing pads (any brands recommended?) changing plugs (NGK) fuel filter, and addressing some of the bikes small electrical issues (right blinkers dont work, rpm gauge stumbles above 7k RPM, need to replace the springs on the muffler hanger things, and the gasket on the muffler hanger itself.)

Loving the bike so far, I just sold my 87 BMW K75S that I had been riding for the last 2 years, to buy a sportbike, and I sure am glad I found this one. ALOT faster than what I am used to. Feel free to make any comments on things the bike might be missing, or what might be out of place, I would like to know if something is amiss lol.

Congrats Man! Either give that thing a bath or my computer screen is dirty, ha but the APE CCT is a good idea with your mileage considering mine went at about half that, easy install too just follow the tutorial in the stickies. There was also a good rattle can paint job thread rolling around here somewhere that seemed to get great results if your looking to change the paint. Havent got around myself to doing the gauge swap but i can tell you i did get use to the speedo having small numbers,,, actually i just go off the rpm's now cause there is more space inbetween the numbers.

If you find somewhere that has headers let me know i think they are kinda hard to come by unless ebay or some or listing. And i really dont know about any specific brands as far as flui or brakes go, but im sure someone will stop by to drop a line

Yeah the pictures were from before I washed it, but the primer is all stained and nasty looking regardless. I plan on painting it over the winter and riding it until the ice comes, I paint for a living so its no big deal for me to do. Currently they are out of stock of the APE CCTs

Thanks, I can definately tell you what to do.

I started out by wetsanding the whole thing with 1500 grit sandpaper. I used a small air grinder with a buffing pad setup (wool pad 3 inch size) with Meguiars M105 heavy duty rubbing compound. Came back with a black foam finishing pad with Mothers.

Whole process only takes about 25-30 minutes. (well, taking the exhaust off and on takes about 10 minutes too)

There are other ways of going about it, but that happened to be the cheapest/easiest way for me since I already had all the supplies and tools.

Thanks for the info on the headers. Im not real familiar with aftermarket stuff on motorcycles, but whats "THE PIPES" that are sworn by on hondas?

i run D&D, nice sound not to loud. I dont think you can go wrong with a Yoshimura either. My buddy has one on his '05 600rr and it screams. but i just know off of exhaust note, i know nothing of power gains. although i guess mine is made for the midrange which is good for street use

What is that thing behind the passenger seat? (grab bar maybe?) I have the same year and mine didn't come with that, ha it looks like a small spoiler
