Default moto gp muffler packing

I bought one of the imfamous moto gp mufflers from ebay. I posted pics a few weeks back. I decided im going to repack it and try to tone down. has anyone repacked them? The guy who does the auction said to use FMF 4 stroke packing, but i thought id check to see if anyone had done this. thanks in advance.

I think your effort of trying to repack the pipe might be a lost cause. Since the packing is around the circumfrence of the pipe in minimal amounts and the exhaust does not seem to pass directly through the packing. It seems more as a baffle to change the pipe nominal diameter than anything else. But if you have any positive results please let me know.

i think im gona have to make a baffle similar to the old mac style baffles. The more i pondered this, the packing wont work unless i weld up a stop inside the muffler to keep from blowing it out.

i was thinking about doing the same thing to my can (its completely hollow)... i was going to find a type of packing material then use that mesh grille stuff ricers put in their grilles of their cars and form it cylindrically so when i slide it in the can, it expands to the circular shape of mine and holds the packing in place around it.

that sounds reasonable to me. Ive got a buddy of mine welding a baffle in right now for me, but if it doesnt mellow it out enough im gona put some packing in there and see what happens
