metal thing on brake pad
hey guys when iwas replacing my brake pads i took off the rear caliper and notcied the metal thing that is supposed to be on the back of each pad was gone? whats it for what would happen without it? also whats the part called and does anybody know where I can buy a spare pair?

Its actually for anti- rattle (called anti-rattle clip or pad spring, depending on which manual you have), keeps the pads in place when not pressed against the disk, so they don't move around & rattle. Up to you if you think you need to replace them, they don't actually have an effect on your brakes performance. I put em back on mine when I replaced the pads, but on other bikes when I did & had to omit the anti-rattle (because of slight design differences to the original pad), it made sod all difference & did not notice any extra noise.
