Jet Questions
Howdy folks, I've been chasing a couple quirks on my 95 F3. Its sounds fairly rough at idle very choppy, compared to my bothers f3 it sounds like a turd. It also occasionally struggles in first till I get going then evens out. I thought it was just that the carbs needed to be synced but after doing that it seemed better but still not as good as my brothers bike. I started thinking about the jets as the next possibility. The bike was jetted by the previous owner I can't remember the exact numbers but they were much bigger that stock. they also did the K&N filter and chopped the Yoshimura beyond recognition Im curious if this would be the culprit for my rough idle? Are they too big? or does the problem hide elsewhere? Thanks!

any suggestions? guess I'm just not sure where to look next to even out the idle it feels like I'm having to set the idle too high to keep it running and id like to get that sorted out.

when you synch the carbs, you first have to do the valve clearances.
Go back in, check the valve clearances, adjust them if needed, then do your balance. While you're at it, whip the carbs out, and see what jets are already in it. Doesnt take long to do that, compare to the manual, and while youre at it, check things like pilot screws etc as well. If everything in the carbs is reset to stock, the valve clearances are done, THEN the carbs are synchd, you should be right. If that doesn't work (Do all this anyway, its scheduled maintenance anyway) you might have an electrical problem. Whip the plugs out, check the colouring on them, then throw them away, Do a compression test, then fit new plugs. After that I would look at coils. My $0.02 |
Ok Thanks! I've never checked the valves before though it seems pretty straight forward.

Its not to late, to whip it, whip it good. Crack that whip.

Did you clean the carbs, did you check the float height?
Check the needle position, check your pilot position. |

There is an inspection in the manual though does that mean that they should be replaced if it's out of spec?

float level can be adjusted by bending the tab the float valve attaches to

Ok thanks!
