How to shorten a choke cable?

I have a 96 CBR 600 f3 Im doing some maintenance on it before i replace the fairings.
As i was looking to see if the air filter needed to be replaced i decided to see if my choke needed adjusting since i have been having starting issues unless i have the choke FULLY opened. needless to say there was alot of play in it. Im just not sure how to adjust it. should i just putt a spacer on or is there a right way to do it?

If that's the right thing to do. I'm pretty new to this so excuse my ignorance.
