Hooked on CBR
Hey, I'm new to the site and just bought my second 96CBR600 for 2550...the odometer reads23.5k but its got the 520 chain and sproket conversion so im sure its a couple thousand less. I just got back from six months in San Diego where I bought my first bike which was an 89 cbr600 in MINTcondition for 2000...that baby only had 18.5k on it when I bought it. True Love. Anyway, I bought my newbike and its in good running condition, has a D+D exhaust, new blinkers, 520 conversion, steel braided brake lines, a 170in the back and it seems all good....However, the guy i bought it from was telling me he put a new cam chain tensioner. So he says the stock one was hydraulic while this one is more of bolt. I'm not that savvy with bikes but he said to adjust when I start riding morefrequently when the weather gets better. Hehad mentioned to adjust it so it doesn't rattle at all then a quarter twist one way...Of course I'll give him a ring when the time comes, but does anyone have any comments about that? Also, compared to my 89 which I sold before I left the west coast, when I turn the wheel all the way to the left, my fingers get pressed against the tank...if my fingers arent there, the handlebarjust barely doesn't touch the tank. He raced the bike, and has the pegs raised but could he have messed with the handle bars and not have told me? Anyway, he's a real nice guy and a PhD student in AeroEngineering so I'd liketo think he knows what he's doin. Have some pics!

also, since he has the pegs raised, he has a different peice that connects the shifter to a part of the transmission (long thin rod) but its a bit RUSTEDout and he gave me the original and a new one that would need to be rethreaded butmaybe i should just leave them higher?

RE: Hooked on CBR
Congrats on another bike!
On my -97, the left clip-on would go into the tank and leave a dent!
The stopping tab on the frame was broken, so I welded in a new piece.
Previous owner never mentioned this, but had put a screw in the fork so that the head of the screw compensated for the missing stopper on the frame.
I never noticed before I changed the forks! Check fork and frame stoppers, and the clip-ons.
It's an easy fix if he just changed the left clip-on position (I can't remember if that's even possible originally).
