Default Got my first bike!!

After many years of dreaming, researching, and dreaming some more, I finally got my first bike. Its a 98 cbr 600 f3 and so far so good. I rode the bike around my apartment complex for about an hour and I gaged a feeling for the bike. I was really nervous at first because I wasn't sure about my ability to handle the bike at low speed turns but like alot of people told me, the bike really does handle itself for the most part. Leaning and turning become a natural feeling. Throttle control was the next thing i was really nervous about. The term "it only take a flick of the wrist" is not over rated. I was sure to keep my left hand on the clutch at all time incase my right wrist got a little twitchy.I only have a permit, but I can't wait until my MSF class in october. Until then Im just gonna ride it in empty parking lots. The only noticible problem with the bike is it needs a new sprocket. Under acceleration, the bike jerks a lil bit. Anyone have any recomendations on where to get a decent one from?

you only need a new sprocket if its worn down. maybe the chain needs to be adjusted. post a picture of the rear sprocket. how many miles?

first things i would do are:

Check brake pads! & replace if bad
Check coolant & top off or replace if not bright green
Change oil & filter, use 10w40 or 20w50 non energy saving oil
Check all brake lines and connections for leaks make sure fluid is topped off and good.
Clean & lube & adjust chain. I use a bristle brush and simple grean to clean, and bel-ray chain lube spray.
run some sea-foam in the gas tank to help combat crap in the carberators. 1/3 bottle to a full tank of gas.

have fun!

Congrats on the new ride, and welcome to the family. This is a great bunch of people, from all over the globe, all ages and both genders, experienced, newbies, and in between.

There's a lot of great information on this site - the search feature can be your best friend. And if you still have questions, thoughts or observations after that, please share them with us. And post up some pics of the bike!

congrats on the new bike. I just got myself a 98 f3 too..down payment made today, picking it up next friday. Its the desert edition. Really good shape. Cant wait to get it on the road. The only problem with mine is a charging issue, but i believe it is the voltage regulator, so its allright.

That sprocket is TOAST!!! I would also look at the front sprocket because it is probably in similar shape. You might be better off just replacing all three, front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain. When a new chain is used on worn out/damaged sprockets, the new chain wear out prematurely. That is why I recomend to replace all three at the same time.

+1 on that, I always change all 3 at the sametime.
