Default Got my first bike.

Well I've been wanting a bike for as long as I can remember and came across a good deal on one that needs a little love. But for $200 I don't think I could do much better. Here's some pics.

Best of luck and enjoy doing the work on her, it will be well worth it when you have her up and running.

Welcome to the forum DAC181. Looks like you're going to be learning a lot over the next several months and spending a lot of time on here. It's good that you're comfortable with loading photo's in your posts, that's good as pictures are worth a thousand words. A suggestion is to work on getting better photos. Clear sharply focused well lit photos will help a lot. Just putting up my $.02 worth.

Again, welcome and have fun. Let us know if we can help in any way.

Thanks for all the replys y'all. And I appreciate the photo tips. Cell phone pics are usually all junk but I wanted to get a few and thats all I had without breaking out the DSLR, which would have been too long as I'm sure the battery is dead... haha

The first thing on my list is to find what's causing it not to run. When I first turn the key on and press the start button it spins fast for a few seconds then it starts getting slower. I noticed the stater solenoid is popping a lot, is it supposed to do that? I've tried using jumper cables to get more amperage and all and it does the same thing. I even tried the battery off my quad. Anyone have suggestions on what to check next? I know I'm going to have to buy a relay for the fuel pump cause the one on it atm smells of burnt electronics and was sticky. I tested the ignition coils and got 3.7 ohms on them and that seems to be the common reading even though the manual I have says 3.0 ohms. I don't know what else to check now. Plugs are clean, wires seem to be in good shape and are NOW in the correct places.

Hmm, popping solenoid + slowing start even with jumpers... bad ground somewhere? Might be a good idea to lift the starter to the table and check the coal brushes if they stick or have worn badly, also check markings or coloring on the rotor ends for defective bearings or lack of lubrication, I've repaired several starters with a dab of grease. The popping suggests grounding issues and the slowing that it's not turning freely, check does it warm up significantly over a short time.

first get some castrol dwf or equivalent electrical cleaner and clean all the connectors out with it checking none are burnt out

check your regulator/rectifier is grounding correctly and that there is no corrosion around the earth wire next to it

you can wire the fuel pump from the battery as a stand alone fuel pump if you add a switch its helpful

if you wire the fuel pump as stand alone then try bump starting it, usually 3rd gear is best. if it then fires up then you have an issue with your starter/starter loom if not then its most likely a kill switch that has been cut when they mutilated that wiring loom

the fuel pump constantly works when the bike is on anyway so having it stand alone makes no difference it stops when up to pressure

Thanks for all the suggestions! bump starting atm is out of the question for the time being. I have nothing to hold the gas tank or seat on, bolts are gone. To answer a few more questions, the solenoid is not getting warm but the pair solenoid valve is, thats the thing with tubes from air box running to it right? It has oil residue inside but nothing is pouring out. I checked the oil level in the bike and its topped off and surprisingly clean. I'm so use to working on cars and understanding what goes where and this bike is throwing me for a loop, doesn't help that it all came like this. Had I tore it down I'd know a little more but everyone here is amazing. By far the best forum I've been a member of in a while.

Not the best pic but I think you can see what I'm about to ask about, what is this? Its on the bottom left side of the engine above the headers.
