Default gastank locking cap/lid

ok guys i got a 97 and when i got the bike i didnt get the gastank keys with it and was wondering if i took the lid off the tank to get a key made if the "nuts" would fall into the tank when i remove it or if the tank is threaded and i could just remove the lid and not worry about anything dropping into the tank

I'm assuming that the lock on the gas tank or the ignition switch itself has been changed?

you really only have to options here, 1: drill out you key hole on the gas lid and pray you can somehow fight it loose, then buy a new keyless one from ebay.... AND 2: track down the past owner.

that's it, that thing WILL NOT come off in one piece.

Good luck, hope this helps.

If you take out the 3 screws that hold it in, you would also need the key with the cap open to remove the cap from the tank. Maybe you can take the tank to a locksmith?

you can drill down till it unlocks, then remove it.
from there, do the keyless gas cap mod in my sig.

or

get a locksmith.

or

shred it to pieces and get a used/new one from ebay.
