Default Funny Sound 95 CBR 600 Any HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Alright I have a 95 CBR 600 F3, and it starts and runs perfect! bike has about 25k on it, got it off a buddy really cheap. However, while it idles i sometimes hear like a "chatter "sound it seems, coming from the top area of the motor, possibly right under the valve cover. and sometimes i hear a knocking sound, neither sounds horrible, and the bike runs and has plenty of power, never stalls, or misfires or anything.

ive heard its good to replace the cam chain, but want to make sure what the problem is, if there even is one before i go pulling it all apart.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

it was the cam chain for me,
f3's are notorious for them failing after 20k
APE makes a good replacement however.

that's a link to a generic one

and here's the APE

Hope that helps.

Not the cam chain but the cam chain tensioner, commonly referred to as the CCT. Honda overcomplicated theirs and basically created a huge fail point on our bikes.

No, it's your chain. The tensioner is oil actuated and doesn't develop enough pressure and therefore tension on the cam chain at idle, especially when the engine is cold.

Get the APE tensioner, you'll never look back.

Telling someone who doesn't know that its their cam chain will have them trying to replace the cam chain. Which is a wasted effort.
