Default Fuel pump ticking noise

Well, am having this issue with the fuel pump ticking. Here is a video link.

Fuel pump ticking noise 1998 Honda CBR 600 F3

Replaced the fuel pump from an eBay version to a Honda oem part and both tick. I’ve bypassed the fuel filter and replaced the fuel lines. The fuel cap fits maybe about 90% it doesn’t seal flat or flush just sticks up a tad and I bought it this way and don’t recall the fuel pump tick or wouldn’t bought. Still. Any suggestions?

It's a reciprocating pump, so should always click. That sounds normal to me.

Best to actually measure flow-rate:

1. disconnect pump from carbs
2. aim into measuring cup
3. turn key ON, start/stop = RUN for 10-sec., then off
4. how much petrol did you collect?

5. another test is to run pump
6. then put thumb over end of hose and try to stop it.
7. does pump stop pumping?

Could using gas from a dirty fat tank cause the fuel pump to get clogged and make this occur? Could I take the clutch cover off and place in neutral and try to recreate the sound or is this not a good idea without oil circulating throughout the top and bottom end and the clutch?
Have and this just started to occu after dirty contaminated gas went through the pump as I’ve investigated and determined as a possibility.

Usually the ticking sound of the fuel pump on F3's is random and variable. Put your hand on the pump as the bike is running and see if you "feel" the pumping along with the sound you're hearing.

Again, this is RECIPROCATING PUMP that has plunger that goes back & forth like pistons. It's not rotary turbine type pump like used in EFI systems that makes smooth whirring sound. It's more like mechanical pumps used in old Chevy V8 trucks.

It should always click. There's switch on bottom that connects and disconnects power to make plunger go back & forth. Exactly like points on old-style mechanical ignition systems. These contact-points do wear out over time and needs to be replaced.

Better alternative is to replace with solid-state version that doesn't have mechanical points. Then clicking will go away.

Your main problems have been petcock issues not flowing. It may have transferred contaminants to pump. So remove pump and test its flow-rate without being limited by restricted, clogged petcock. How long does it take to pump 2-cups of petrol?
