fork oil info
whats up guys. so im about to pick up a wrecked 96 from a friend. the forks are bent and i just landed a set from a 98. the seals are shot, but i plan on replacing them myself.
ive done a bunch of searches for the rebuild process, and think i have that pretty much on lock. but my question is more pertaining to the oil. are there different kinds or just oem? are there different weights? if so, whats the difference? what have people found to work better and why?
thanks for any info...

You can go for what ever you like, the original stuff is very thin. I always replace mine with a mid weight oil. Why? well it was recommended by a bike mechanic many years & bikes ago as it does not foam as much (all the fork oil's I ever bought have always said "Less foaming blah, blah". Mid weight makes the forks slightly stiffer, but with all the adjustments on the front suspension...... Also depends on you're own weight, type of roads & riding style.
