Question Fix or replace..

I finally heard back from insurance about my 1996 F3. Its totaled with a repair bill of $4600 from the stealership. They will give me $2618 to total it out and the buy back is $557. But it would take an easy $800-1100 to fix it back up including new levers, grips, mirrors, pegs, bar ends, slip on and fairings.

I thought of going with the Hong Kong Repsol set with carbon fiber accessories and a two brothers m2 slip on, but even that will run me $980 if i'm lucky. So i'd be looking at a total of $1400-$1500 total.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to buy-back. It would have to be salvage titled and I have been considering moving to something fuel injected soon anyways since the elevation changes so much where I ride here is Colorado.

What are your thoughts and opinions? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Photos of the bike's damage can be found in my last post at the link below...

Depends on if you would rather put the money into a new bike asap or play around with it and might miss the riding season

My bigger concern is putting the money into it and then eating it if/when i go to sell it. a quick search on craigslist has F3's from 1800-2900 with clean titles and 1300-1500 with salvage titles.

You could buy back and part out engine, etc... make your money back and then some.

I agree with the buy back and part out idea. You could easily make your money back and then some. You'd probably even get a few bucks for the damaged fairings if it's mostly just rash.

If you have the space and wouldn't mind missing out this season I'd say buy back and part for sure.

What is the best way to part it out? I'm located in Grand Junction, CO and have no clue how i would ship a frame or engine. lol. I'm an old fashioned pick it up with a truck type. lol.

I believe you can ship freight through ups. I have never done it before, but I think that is how they ship it.
