Default Few Problems...

Hey I am new to the forum. This is my first street bike, too (1997 CBR 600 F3). But it seems like I am having a few problems.

First, what does the choke lever look like. Mine just has the wire (how I bought it) and you have to pull it up to use it.

Second, if I accelerate in first and then let it wine down I get a real bad hop in the front.

Third, I think it is overheating, because sometimes it will just shut off randomly and the radiator reservoir will be empty...

Any ideas to any of these?

Thanks

The choke has a little **** on the left clip-on's switch housing that you would pull down to turn the choke on. Probably only a couple bucks to order, just make sure that the switch housing isn't messed up or anything since that might be the reason why it's missing in the first place.

Maybe your fork's dampeners are blown?

Dunno about the overheating issue, best I could recommend is to make sure the radiator and reservoir are filled to the correct level.

The forks may need to be service, but I'm guessing that it's your steering head bearings. You'll feel a, "pop" in the steering when quickly backing off the throttle after hard acceleration, and also just when you tap on the front brakes in normal, city-driving conditions.

If your bike sat for any period of time, it may be that the water pump will need replaced, or your thermostat has failed and doesn't allow coolant to cycle thereby dispensing it in the overflow... you should surely be aware that this is happening when it does. Coolant will be leaking at the bottom of your bike. Do the lower fairings have coolant sprayed all over the inside of them? That would tell you it's leaking under speed which can help troubleshoot it.

What is your temp gauge showing? Be carefull doing this too much as overheating can cause horrible, no-fix enging problems.

Do you have a picture of the choke ****?

Should I just replace the whole forks?

I flushed and refilled the radiator today. I drove it around and haven't had a problem since.

On the steering head bearings, can it be a do it your-self project, or do I need to take it in?

Dunno about the forks, unless they're bent I personally wouldn't replace them. Best advice I could give you is to take it to a motorcycle suspension shop and have them look at it.

If you wanna replace the steering head bearings, it's not hard, but it's not easy either. You'd want to get the front of the bike completely in the air, remove the ram air, pull the front wheel, then remove the top triple tree, bolt holding on the stem, then pull the forks off. From there you should have access to the steering head bearings. When I swapped the front end on my bike, i had to pull the exhaust then use a car jack to lift the front end up. There's a little bit more involved but that's the jist of it.

Nice, thanks for the pic. How hard are fork seals to install? A friend has a pair of forks and he is going to give them to me but the need fork seals....

Also anyone know any motorcycle shops by Dallas or Plano?
