Default f4 rectifier on f3? possible?

I have a cbr f3 that i believe needs a rectifier. MY friend last night crashed his bike into a retaining wall at a supermarket... not sure what he was doing but he just has a hurt shoulder and totalled bike. So i was wondering if a rectifier off his f4 would fit or be able to be modified to fit and work on my f3. Thanks guys.

Sure...it's probably the same one. You'd be better off replacing it with a different one all together. I have a yzf600r r/r in mine. Works great!

Don't replace a faulty part with another faulty part, there's plenty of other r/r's you can use off other bikes, or you can get an oem replacement that's plug and play, but those typically cost a little more

Well its the next year, what rectifier should i use then? I got quoted a price of $75 for a new one for my bike but im not sure if its aftermarket or not. Is there a cheaper choice because I can get dealer prices on any rectifier. Thanks guys.

I used one off an early 2000's gsxr, cost me about $25, but you can use any that's from a 600cc+ and has the 3 phase wires, and the power/ground coming off it.

If your buddies r/r has the heat-sink fins on it, it is the OEM upgrade and will be fine.
If it has just an epoxy fill top, then you will probably not be doing much good.

The 3 yellows are non-specific, just yellow to yellow will do.
The red is positive, the drk green is negative.

The r/r is a pretty generic part, my only recommendations are...

Always substitute for a similar or greater displacement engine size.
i.e. if it's a 600cc use an r/r off of a 600cc or larger engine.

Always upgrade to a design with a finned heat sink attached.
The r/r needs to dump a lot of heat, inability to do so is why they fail.

i have a 96 f3 and just replaced my regulator with a brand new gsxr 600 one. works great! and the fins on it are bigger and there is more of them to help keep it cool.
