I use a spark plug socket, 3" extension, and a long handle socket wrench with a twisting handle. I can change my plugs in 5-10 minutes.

I've never had any problems with the factory tool in removing the plugs. All four come right out of the side covers. Just don't install wires before removal of center two plugs
