now these are my questions
anyone have mods done to the suspension ? what can be done to improve it , ive been riding for about 3 years now and want to start some track time fine tune some stuff .
whats a good jet kit for the f3 and i want to throw on a steering damper .

i know the spring rate will be different for everyone based on their weight, but is there a specific 'model' of penske shock to look for?
I've not bought a replacement shock before, so shopping for them is a new experience... And it really needs to be my first modification to a track-only bike.

Penske makes a Twin-Clicker or, "double clicker." It's tool-lessly adjustable for dialing in when you're changing up the tracks/suspension.
Kwong is pretty much on the money. If it's gonna be a track-only bike sell everything OEM that you don't need and first thing I would do would be full exhaust, air filter, jet kit and bodywork. Then I'd go forks, then rear shock, then levers/rearsets, then engine internals.
Depending on who you talk to though they may suggest forks/shock first. Depends what the budget allows, I guess.

The differencesbetween a track bike and race bike are minimal to non-existentif we're talking a dedicated track bike since it's the same thing.
As for the miles, not at all. May replace some rings and some other stuff but I'm sure there are plenty of laps left in just about any decently maintained bike @19K miles.
As for the spring, generally speaking, it's includedas part of the unit when you buy a rear shock. You couldcertainlydo that, but for the work (unless you've got compressors laying around in which case I'm sure you wouldn't be asking ) you'renot going to gain muchunless you can maybe find an aftermarket shock assembly that was trashed except for the spring... ?
Just buy a used assembly

The difference between a streetbike and trackday only bike are minimal. My sig line only has a few mods that would fit. There's more.To both bikes. Not to mention the mods that I removed.
Putting a spring on a stock shock is a waste of all sources involved.Get another shock.Put your oem one on the shelf.
Ohlins is the only way to go for racing.F4 and F4i Ohlins shocks will fit and work on our bikes. The difference in the shocks is not just the spring, but the fluid dynamics.Fox,Elka and Penske shocks are ok,but if you want to go fast, without "getting tossed",get an Ohlins. You can get an Ohlins for 400 bucks, tops,on ebay.Getting one rebuilt won't cost more than 200 dollars by an authorized Ohlins service center.Don't take it to anywhere but,if it needs it.If you can't find one,PM me,I'll point you to two of them that are top notch.
I know what you are thinking. No,no other brands of shock can't be modded to work like an Ohlins.Doing this is what's reffered to as "Saving a nickel to spend a dollar".
is 19,000 miles too much for a track (not race) bike?
