What is a healthy temp for my bike to be running at?

I've temped right around the cylinder heads and got about 210º, but I know it runs a bit hotter than that. Also, my temp gauge pulls about 1/4 right below the overheating red line when sitting in traffic. Is the bike running this hot normal?

 

I don't know the specific temperature of the heads or engine while running because the guage doesn't say. As for where the temp guage displays, during normal riding the guage stays below the half way mark. In traffic it will rise to the upper half of the guage, then you'll hear the radiator fan kick on. The fan runs for a bit, then turns off usually before the guage gets down to the half mark. Then the temp starts to rise again and the fan kicks on again. It cycles like this until you get up to speed again and it cools off.

Fan should turn on at 223 F. If the needle is below 3/4 up, you're safe.

 

I have an f3, and cruising down the freeway, the temperature gauge is just slightly above the cold mark, and I have never seen it above about 60% up the gauge. Is it a problem (thermostat bad) for it to be staying that cold during cruising, or is that normal?

 

if ur riding, it usually gets pretty low on the freeway..

 

That's pretty normal for my bike to, on both counts & has done from new.

 

It gets up to 40 degree's celcius here in Australia and that sucks when your stuck in city traffic on the F3, fan is always on. I feel sorry for the bike, just gun it whenever you have a free piece of road! My temperature gauge always goes above halfway and then fan kicks in and reduces it when im stationary a lot.

 

That's exactly how mine behaves and I've never had any running issues with it. Mind you, this is also the case during some very hot days down here in FL as well. Bottom line is that our cooling systems are made to be very effective at speed and just good enough to keep from causing damage in a stopped/low speed situation. I'd say you're ok, Bob.

I was hoping that maybe its supposed to stay warmer because I'm freezing my *** off here riding down the freeway when its 35 deg
