Default Engine dies when increasing throttle or decreasing choke

I am digging through the threads to find similar issues, but I wanted to start a thread in case I do not find any specific cases. My bike has only been started and ridden twice in close to two years, which I know is very bad. I installed new spark plugs to try to start it a few weeks ago, but could never get enough battery life after charging to try to get the bike running, so I installed a new, fully charged, battery today (what a world of difference when trying to get a bike running). It turned over fine, but took several attempts to get it to fire. Took longer than expected so I pulled a plug to make sure it was firing... all good. Tried some more and finally fired up with full choke.

I let it run for a good 10 to 15 min just idling while I helped my brother to get his bike fired up. Then when I went to give my bike some gas it died. Started it up, same thing. Since the bike was now warmed up, plus a hot day, I took the choke off and tried starting it...no joy. Bike would only fire up with full choke. I would try very slowly to take the choke off and it would just idle less and less, then die. Bike would never let me give it any throttle either.

Also, it is the same gas that has been in there, nothing fresh.

Any recommendations on what to try next?

Thanks in advance.

My bike just had the same problem about a month ago. I tore it apart and took the fuel filter out, it was clogged so freaking bad that when I tried to blow through it nothing came out. I hit it in my hand a few times and blackish/grayish silt came out of it. I went to the dealer and got a new one, slapped it on and it runs a lot better then before.

Check your fuel filter and see if it's clogged, my bike wouldn't run unless fuel choke was applied until I changed the fuel filter.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to change that 2 year old gas in it too.

If the bike has been sitting for a couple years, you're carbs need to be cleaned. Here is a thread with links.

Yep first thing drain the old fuel out and put fresh fuel in add your favorite cleaner better yet as above pull them and clean. Most likely the slow jets are clogged.

I appreciate the feedback. I printed out the service manual to help me figure out where the fuel filter is and how to do everything else. Are there rebuild kits for carbs?

I am sure there are kits out there but save your money for now and just tear them down and clean them spray the jets out with carb cleaner make sure to keep the carb cleaner away from the diaphragms on the slides. You might even be able to get away with fresh gas and Seafoam or Techron chose your poison lol
