I feel your pain about the keys... This summer, I was out for a ride, popped into a gas station in the middle of nowhere, put the key into the tank cap, turned, & went to open it. They key folded sideways at about a 60 degree angle! :O Thankfully, I carry a spare in my wallet.
Pacemaker is right. On roadtrips, seems somebody always has a minor crisis. ;-)

I know where your coming from dude, as i just picked up a 2003- RR-3 & it's only the one key, & not knowing the drama of getting some spares, i went to a Honda dealer & got knocked back with the "price"!, but then was told by the dealer, only they have the set up to set me up with the programmed new key, but not having a clue about this Teck B.S spare key access, I told them to "stick it", & walked out. But i still only have the one key? So i started to research this HISS key stuff, & went on line ordering- 2 spare keys with the hollow heads for $4, then i got a 5 pack of the correct type programmable chips for $6.50, then i got the 2 keys cut to my 1st key which was the most expensive part $24, then with the new keys & just blue tacking the chips on them, using a 10 cent diaode, 3 meters of 12 volt 10amp wires, a 10amp fuse set up, a 2 pin electrical plug, & 2 alligator clips, i programmed all the 5 spare chips to my HISS set up ( as shown in U Tube) , then locking 1 chip in each new key, so now I've 1 key & chip cable tied in a hide spot on my RR-3, where if i ever do lose my key while out some where, I've a way out, & as well as 4 spare programmed chips at home which is the biggest concern as a key can be newly cut where you have the barrel, But if you don't have the correct chip? You got to get a new Hiss set up which means a new "ECU". So if you only have the one key? get it done before you end up in that dude's story of bad luck. Chris.Webb

When I was doing lots of track days I kept a key hidden on the bike, under the fairing zip tied to the frame. Guys frequently showed up at the track only to be unable to ride because they left their keys home - hundreds of miles away.
A thief won't waste time searching for a hidden key when it's so easy to just break the lock.
