confirming symptoms of bad relay
engine is a 1997 cbr600 f3
I believe i have a bad relay for the fuel pump. when my ignition is on i hear the fuel pump knocking, i can even reach below and feel it knocking. yesterday 5/29/12 after sitting in traffic for some time and getting warm, as i started to pull outta of first gear it died as if i killed the clutch. i waited about 1 hour and tried to restart. after about the 2nd attempt, it started and i made my way home. toady 5/30/12, i tried it again and it starts right up, but still with the knocking with ignition on. this is my first honda ever! not sure much about them. how do i go about getting this fixed? thanks, looking forward to conversation on this forum in the future! |
its most likely the pump and not the relay. the pumps are a known weak link on the f3's.

Sounds like the pump to me too. You can get one for an 84-85 accord for like $50-$60 at autozone.

Pull all of the connections on the relay, to isolate it.
Put a continuity check on the load side of the relay. Then run a current to the control side. If it 'clicks' and you get continuity on the load side, the relay is good. Ern |

Did you ever resolve this issue?? I'm having the same problems on a 98 f3. I noticed the fuel pump was getting super hot to the touch and pumping at high speeds constant until it gives out. Then I have to wait an hour or more till it cools off then I can get her started again. Until recently it got so bad that it started to Force fuel out the sides of the fuel pump. It doesn't work at all now and I have removed the pump entirely and have a gravity-fed for now. I'm thinking it's the pump but it doesn't make sense that it just started getting hot all the sudden. So I'm hoping that the cutoff relay will solve my issue.
