Default Cluster swap from 96 f3 to F4

I have seen several post about this but can someone please tell me what is involved in changing over from F3 to go with digital F4. Is speed sensor different, etc?

What makes you want an F4 cluster? What I suggest is find an online service manual for each and compare wiring harnesses.

I dont know why I guess since my speedo is not working I was trying to find the cheapest fix. It seem f4 clusters were being sold for a little less than my 96 F3. So..... Oh well guess it probably would be best to just find a speedo for mine. Thanks ya'll for the replies

Ah, gotcha. Have you gone through your wiring to make sure it's not just a short or frayed wire causing the probs with your speedo?

I found burnt wires at the connector from alternator to i believe regulator. I replaced connector but it did not help speedo problem. My speedo start at 15 mph when switch is on. It will very slowly climb until it eventually reaches max speed even if bike is just setting as long as switch is on. Wish it were something as simple as a burnt or loose wire. I also found the the wires going to my headlights had been taped together and the tape had came off so I butt spliced them but that has been the only wiring issues I have found so far...any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Sounds like someone did a shotty wiring job on your bike man. If I were you, I'd grab a service manual and find the wiring diagram and go to town checking every wire from end to end for continuity and correct wiring. Sounds like something's gotta be wired wrong...
