Default changing the gas tank

i got a new gas tank for my 97 f3, i was wondering what the best way to drain the gas out of the old tank, or if i even need to drain the gas out until it is off the bike. if i turn the petcock to the off position, will gas come pouring out still when i disconnect the hoses coming out of the gas tank?

Drive the bike till you are almost out of gas. It will make it easier to remove. I took mine off the other day and all i did was turn off the gas and removed it. It did not leak.
