Default Chain Tensioner

I over-tightened my drive chain tensioner. The plate on the rear of my swingarm shattered, and the screw coming through the plate at the rear of the swing-arm was bent. I was wondering if this screw and the tensioner were made as a single unit, or could I seperate them and replace just the screw. I need to get this fixed by the weekend. Any help is appreciated.

Does the drive chain tensioner help keep the chain tight at all or does it just adjust the tension?
