Default CCT

From reading posts on here I understand that when the CCT is on its way out you here some rattling noises coming from the right side of the engine (where the CCT is obviously) my question is that when the CCT is ****ed, if you hold onto it and rev the engine will you feel vibrations on the CCT? (I didn't on mine) I don't think mine is on its way out, was just wondering for future reference to look out for it.

Cheers

Mike

Mike, if you hear the rattle it is time to change it for a manual CCT.

Even if you dont hear the rattle, it's just a good idea to put the manual CCT in there, if that chain skips it will destroy your engine, not to mention how annoying that rattle is.

You'll notice that the CCT is letting go when you hear the rattle when the engine firststarts up, some rattle at idle and some rattle at mid-range RPM also. The sound is the slack in the chain slapping inside, and when the CCT loosens up enough the chain will skip a tooth on the cam sprocket causing the timing to go out and the pistons will come up and destroy your valve train and possibly the piston heads.

A manual CCT will keep constant tension and only needs adjustment a couple of times per year. If in doubt, swap it out! It could save your engine.

Cheers I don't think mine needs changing and to be honest I will change it with an OEM one when the time comes because 15000 miles is quite a long time where bikes are concerned, my bike has only just done over 13000 miles and there is no rattle or vibration coming from the CCT so it should be ok for a while.

Yeah youshould be fine for now, it's just an inherent problem with the early CBR's and one of the most popular mods.

Good luck! When I got my bike it only had 26,000 km's (Canadian) and it had the rattle pretty bad... Every time I fired it up cold it sounded like one of those little party noise maker rattle things!

I just ordereda manual CCT, they're $49 american.

Pretty simple do-it-yourself install, would take maybe an hour.

Adjustment is just turning a bolt.

FoxRacin, you'll have to pull off your gas tank, or maybe just the side fairing and take a look at it.

If it looks like the one I just posted above it's a manual CCT, the stock one looks like this:
