I have a 96 cbr f3. The bike starts and idles fine but when I go above certain speeds it will cut out and backfire. What are some basic things to look for like fuel, spark, or air. It will run fine threw a couple gears then starts to act up. Any ideas thanks

 

what speed are you talking?

maybe spicy or another mod can provide some info about the air solenoid in the vacuum lines.

 

Any speed but I seem to notice more when going up threw the gears to a higher speed. Missing and surging forward till I let off the throtle then it will backfire, but still maintains idle.

 

Does it happen relative to RPM or land speed? If its only at higher RPMs you may need to change your jets to a smaller size or check if you have an adjustable needle and set it out one clip. could be flooding at high revs. Pull the plugs, they will tell you everything. =)

 

I can floor it all the way threw first and second but when I start reaching higher land speed it cuts out, almost completley. I have to lay off the throttle then come back on, when I do that it starts to backfire and miss. Still idles perfect but cant even ride it on the street to keep up with traffic. Thanks for any ideas or help

 

thats really weird. first thought that comes to mind is dirty carbs, but the idle jets are the first to get plugged up by buildup and debris, not the main jets. hm. it wouldnt hurt to pull them and give the jets a thorough cleaning. but at high speeds that sounds weird. what mods are done to the bike? airfilter, pipe, anything?

 

Just got the bike. Has a shorty pipe and k&n maybe. No major mods. How often are you supposed to change the fuel filter or spark plugs. How do I know what size jets are in it or that I need?
