Default Cbr 600 f3

Im new to this forum. My name is Joe and I just bought my first motorcycle last week, It is a 1998 Honda CBR 600 F3. It only has 17,000 miles on it, the engine sounds great after i changed the spark plugs. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where to look for a decent priced new fairing kit for it as the guy I bought it from laid it down on both sides cracking it all up.

piece by piece from ebay is the best deal for the original factory ones, shinetrust in hong kong makes some abs (and crappier) ones online, and as far as the states, unpainted ones from sharkskinz (including race fairings)

Piece by piece on Ebay is the best fitting route, tho you're likely to have to paint them. Just a reminder, there is a difference between the 95-96 & 97-98 F3s on the tail. Seat & tail light. So make sure you get 97-98 else it won't fit right.

Welcome aboard!

thanks alot. I am surfing ebay. I know i will have to have someone else paint them since that is not my area of expertice. lol I need to also buy the tail light assembly, it was all broken up and I really dont know if there was anything else missing. the seat was there but it looks like the tail light assembly had something to mount to or is it just supposed to tuck up to the seat?

If you decide to go 97/98 tail, you will NEED a 97/98 tail light bracket, and also the taillight, usually both for about 40 bucks on ebay.

Eventually you will need a seat for it as well, click my sig and you will see the gap in the seat, but more importantly, it won't fit snug and it puts pressure on the tail which can break the plastic nipples.

Read up on the seat thread I made.

Also, you might want to do the fender eliminator, or make your own one like I did.

Here's a followup on the thread I made about Hong Kong fairings if you are interested.

Just make sure you understand everything before you dive in.
Also, you can rattlecan your own fairings with some spray from walmart.
Prime em, paint em, gloss em. and then buy some decals from ebay.

Also, if you go the Ebay route, be patient...especially because the '97-'98 parts are usually "rare" or priced too high.. I find that surfing forum for-sale sections are usually cheaper on the tail section plastics than Ebay. And depending if you DO go the '97-'98 tail route, you may want a Clear Alternatives Integrated tail light (has l.e.d.'s for bulbs and has the blinker lights built in). It looks and works pretty well. Here is one on Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Clear...Q5fAccessories
Good luck!!

Good luck!!

id say hold out and get a used one, my next door neighbor got his clear alternatives taillight for his tail conversion for 27 bucks.
Hell I saw a normal tail light on ebay for 10 bucks a week ago, shipped.

Both, rare.

Talking 1998 cbr 600 f3

thanks for all the info about the tail section and seat for my bike but hopefully since mine is a 98 it wont be a problem. I saw one of the threads that was posted about a fairing kit from china that had to be modified to fit. would you say it would have fit pretty good if your bike was a 98 instead of the 96?, and how much did it cost? name of company too if you can. I would like to check all sites out that are reputable or that people have had good experiences with.

Not likely, though it's hard to say for sure. It seems like the quality is decent for some kits, but the problem of quality is more because of particular sellers who just have poorly made products than it is about the model bike the kits are for.

If it were me, I'd be going the ebay route. If you are patient and diligent, you can piece together a set of fairings and get a nice new paint job for the same price I'm sure. The upsides of that are that the OEM fairings are typically much stronger ABS and you will also have a custom paint job.
