Carbs Backfiring

Carbs Backfiring
OK, ok I'm new to the CBR 600 F3. I got a basket case for a very good price and I through it all together and ready to crank it up and nothing. I replaced the battery, the spark plugs and still nothing. I checked the points on the fuel pump and everything is good. So I bypassed the fuel pump and went to the carbs with my fuel and still nothing. So I pumped my throtttle to get a little fuel going and my carbs backfired. This has never happen to me before. Can some one help me out here, any advice will be welcome...

you bought a non running bike and didnt tear the carbs apart yet? thats the most fun part! something is restricting gas flow. buy a new fuel filter, they are cheap. and clean the carbs. backfiring means you fuel/air ratio is a little rich too. dont flood it just trying to start it.
im not a pro, but just my .02

As baxter1 said, it's most likely the carburetors. If it's backfiring, then you have fuel and ignition. You probably just have the wrong amount of fuel. BTW, you can't flood the engine by twisting the throttle on these bikes. They don't have an accelerator pump. The throttle only opens a butterfly to allow more air in, but causes a loss of vacuum which is what is helping pull in the fuel.
If the bike's been apart for a while, say longer than 4 months, then the carburetors need a thorough cleaning.

Alright took the advice of some of the fellow members and cleaned my carbs out. Went to start the bike nothing, I checked everything over once again. Then the wife said are your spark plug wires crossed. In my head I was like what ever can't hurt anything to try it. So I ran the spark plug cables to where they appeared to go. Holy heck she cranked right up on the first try I was so stoked. I grabbed my helmet through the seat on let her warm up and jumped on her and went down the block and she died on me. So I cranked her up and she would idle but as soon I gave her throttle she died out on me, anyone have any more suggestion....

I'm thinking that maybe you might have missed something while cleaning the carbs. Naturally make sure you've got all the vacuum hoses and control valves connected properly. I think the air cleaner cover has a hose routing diagram.
Sounds like you're making good progress, way to go. You're almost there.
