Default bought a rear stand, need help

Its a cheap harbor frieght stand that I bought used. I brought it home and found out that the spot where spools go is way to high. I've searched and couldn't find any solid answers. 1 guy I saw just used a round steel through his axle to hold the bike on the stand but I want something better than that. Has anyone used a spool type HF stand on their f3? If so what did you do to get it to work right? Maybe weld a plate to the bottom of the swing and add a bolt on 1 side? I know the frame is steel but is the swing steel or aluminum? I need to get some maintainence done asap and will do the round bar thru the axle for temporary fix but I want something more permenant and safer

you can drill your swing (its steel) and it will be fine.

i would leave holes in my swing, and do it much like this...

however, i would actually recommend you dodge spools and get a non spool stand. you can get them for 40.00 bucks or less.

Thanks spicey. That's quite close to the rear. What if I drilled all the way through the swing behind the chain adjusters and used a lond bolt.

HF selld paddle pieces for that stand but not sure how sturdy it would be

errm. i cant guarantee it will work right that far up the swing.
dont get me wrong, im sure if you are crafty enough you can pull it off.
(how do you think i got around to what i did heh)
mine worked fine, and im sure yours will as well
that swing arm is beast strong, and a hole through it should not compromise the integrity of the swing as far as i know.
im not a certified mechanic though, i do half my mods intoxicated.

if you are sold on those spolls, get a nut (they sell a weld on version) that you can weld onto your swing, and screw the bolts right in.

Since its a steel swing I'm going to tac a tab onto the bottom about 2-3 inches behind the axle bolt location. It will hang off the swing and have a bolt on the backside. That location with the low profile HF stand should lift the bike at least 3-5inches

Do you have a local Harbor Freight? I bought my stand from them and I remember seeing boxes of paddles right by the stands. The spool and paddle stands were identical except for the spool/paddle part which just slides into it.
