You definatly got a timing problem if it's banging & backfiring,
go back and recheck everything you done
its easy to get a cam 180 out
don't forget the crankshaft turns 2 times faster than the cams

take no notice about your plugs being junk coz they got wet, thats complete rubbish your plugs will be fine
listen to the experts, & you won't go far wrong.

I did not know the plugs were brand new... sorry in that cause yes I would just clean them up and put them back in. BUT... sometimes once plugs get wet inside.... not just on the outside, they are then junk. But most the time that is an extreme case. Yea if it was backfiring after a couple seconds I would also say go back and check the cams. I was thinking it cranked and cranked then it started backfiring.

NO way can a plug be junk if it gets wet on the inside thats total rubbish,
I have fixed bikes for years with cylinders that have gone down totally soaking the plug through with fuel and oil
put the motor back together with the same plugs and fire her up no problems
Who told you that about the plugs TRANS???

Would that have caused any permanent damage to the engine with the cams 180 degrees out?

Messing up the engine timing is one of the reasons im scared about adjusting my own valves.

Hopefully not... if it damages valves the enging would lock (just on cranking) up seeing as it hasnt run since rebuild, and any one who bulids an engine up ALWAYS turns it over by hand 1st DONT THEY??[:-]

Yup. 'spose to rotate it by hand first. But no, I've actually heard an old Yamaha FJ 1200 engine run with the exhaust cam 180 degrees out. Of course it didn't sound pretty, but no damage resulted from it.

F%#k this...I rotated the cams 180 Degrees as they were out of timing and nothing....

It's going in for service at a dealer after 3 months of hell....

I'll let you know what they find out was wrong...I can't wait...
