Default bike sounds like a diesel!!!!

Its sounds like valves or lifters I dont know.

Its really random it wont do it at all on cold starts sometimes then others it will and same when the engine is hot

I checked the oil and its good I tried different gas and nothing.

The only consistent thing is that it does it only below 4-5k RPM, above that the sound goes away and gets dramatically quieter.

The bike runs really strong too

HELP!

Sounds like the Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT). Do a search on here and you should find a ton of topics on it. Itisaround $50 to replace it yourself if I recall correctly. Very simple to change out (2 bolts).

oooooh interesting,you could be right

the only thing is that if I had to pin point the sound I would say its coming from the top of the motor

not the lower left where the CCT is, right?

There's no sure-fire way to KNOW it's the CCT, but the symptoms you describe let me know it's about 99.9 % chance it is. The valvetrain on these engines are pretty much bulletproof, so I highly doubt it's that. A rattling sound like marbles in your top end in the RPM range you describe point to the CCT. It's a known weak point on a LOT of Honda inline 4 engines. (F1-F4i).

Plus, if you've got over 10-15K miles on your engine, it's just a matter of time before it will start rattling anyway. Just go ahead and order the new one. You will need item #5 (the "lifter assembly", or CCT) and item #1 (new gasket). Also, be sure to order the updated CCT (the part number ending in MAL-305). Ronayers has always had good prices on OEM parts: http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/...N_-_F3_-_95-96

Let us know how it goes.

My bike has the same noise just not as loud as you say yours is. It has about 32,000 miles on it and looks like it has a new top end. Where can i find a manual tensioner for it and which one is better?

my local dealer actually had the oem cct in stock! they want $75 for the gasket and cct

i think im just going to order the ape cct offebay

how does the oem cct install? it has to be harder than just two 10 mm bolts
