which is a better deal for a 1998 F3
I am loking at 2 F3's right now. 1) is red/black with some fairing scratches, also scratches on the clutch cover, needs a new rear tire, has ~18,500 miles and has a crack on the front fender. It starts right up, has racetech suspension, erion racing exhaust, daytona stabalizer and the guy is asking $3400 obo.
2) Is a smoking joes 1998 F3 with 5,000 miles original everything, scratches on one fairing, just had 5000 tune up and is completely stock. He is asking $4000 obo.
I am serious about buying and have cash in hand so I figure I can work the price of each no problem. I don't know anyone who rides and would greatly appreciate any info you have to offer. Thanks

Which ever runs better. The 1st sounds like it has been beat on more and ridden harder. However if thats what you're looking to do with the bike then the 1st is already setup for it better. It all depends on how you plan to ride it.
#2 is a nicer bike, but I agree you should consider how you intend to use it. If you're fairly new to riding, or want a bike for really pushing it at the track, you might be better off with a cheaper bike you won't feel so bad about dropping. Having a collector's item is cool, but you'll have to handle it more gently if you want it to keep its value.
