Let me just say that while it's a tough read, your post is one of the most awesome ever! Very nice description of your problem.

Okay, first things first. Have you checked all your fuses?

Thanks for the reply. I know its a big read but I did'nt want to leave anything out in case I missed something stupid. As they say a couple of thousand heads is better than one!
Ive checked the fuses and all the wiring connections they all seem tight. I'm at a loss? Next is cdi.

Sounds about right...

What about the ground? Do you have a good ground? I would check that and then also check the contact surfaces of one or two harnesess. If they look clean, then the rest probably are. However if they are dirty then there's a good chance that could be your culprit (meaning others are dirty too).

If that's not the case I would defnintely look intothe CDI. I just mention the ground becasue there was another cat here who had problem after problem and never could seem to get the bike started. It wasn't grounded.

While waiting for cdiI've been having a prod around with the multimeter .
when ignition is turned on I've got 12.8 volts at the coils. Press starter still 12.8 volts.
I thought you would only get voltage at coils when starter pressed?
or is this down to faulty cdi? or have I got awiring fault.
