Default Another Cam Chain Tensioner Question

I just bought a manual cam chain tensioner from APE for my 96 F3. The instructions say that to set the tensioner you must remove the cam cover, remove the cam chain guide rotate the engine and adjust until there is between 1/4 and 3/8 deflection in the chain. I have read other thread's on installing the manual tensioner and all that was required was to tighten the adjuster until it is hand tight and then back it off 1/2 to 1 full turn. Does anyone know if its really necessary to remove the cam cover and cam chain guide?

Yea you don't have to remove all that crap. Just hand tighten it the back it off a half a turn or more.

If you already have a manual tensioner installed, I believe all you need to do is tighten it to get rid of the chain noise. If you have the stock tensioner you will probably need to replace it.
