20-50!?!?
Seems like you'd be losing some high end power. Seems like it could also make the bottom-end work much harder than necessary, possibly reducing life-expectancy.
I honestly don't know if this is the case, but it seems to me that it would. Anyone else?
I know a guy that runs 20-50 in his Mustang GT (302). I run 10-30 in cold weather and 10-40 in the heat.
By the way, when I changed my clutch that sound went away. Did you try adjusting your clutch before you tried the new oil? I don't honestly know if that will make a difference, and I don't know how soon that sound on mine will come back since I've only put around 400 miles on the new clutch.

20w50 is a great oil for motorcycles especially in warm weather. its getting over 100F every day here and that extra protection imo is worth it. also it should last longer and keeps its protection longer since it takes less additives for a 20w to act like a 50 when its hot than a 10w to act like a 40 when its hot. its only going up by 2.5x, the 10w to 40 is going up 4x, and those extra additives don't add lubrication, they just bring the viscocity up when its hot.
its the recommended oil for temperatures that i'm dealing with. it was never really serious clutch chatter or whatever it is called, but I know good fluids can quite down gearboxes. Redline MTL is great in my BMW's manual trans for example, smoothed the shifts compared to regular gear oil.

i live in sacramento, california. its 105 outside right now! i got all that info on oil temp info from a link someone recommended from this site, or twowheelforum.com, i forget. they said 10w40 broke down faster than 20w50. i'm not sure if that matters with amsoil or not though.

Go for full synthetic (if U can afford it) then U don't have to worry about all these temperature fluctuations. My one friend changed to full synthetic and he's never looked back. Everything like the valves and transmission just runs quieter and U don't have to worry about hot days or cold days.
It's more expensive but apparently you don't have to change it that often (although I'd prefer to do a regular change)
I've done some research and the stats look good
On my next service I'm changing to synthetic to see how it goes.
Don't know if anyone else has a comment on this?
