Default 96 fuel pump intermittent

I started having some fuel supply issues on my bike. I pulled the fuel pump and checked the switch contacts and they look fine. The bike will start and run sometimes and I rode it around with my hand on the fuel pump. The pump definitely stops pumping when the bike starts to lose power and die. Would this be a fuel cut relay problem or is the solenoid in the pump going out? How can I test it?

I put it all back together today to do some troubleshooting and the pump is magically working again.

I have another question though. How fast should the pump work? Before the thing would only click everyonce in awhile. Now it runs in cycles. It will flutter for 4 or 5 seconds and then stay off for 4 or 5 seconds. By flutter I mean it feels like it is pumping the same speed as the rpms of the bike. Is that how it should work?

i have been having fuel pump issues as well. the pump pulls power of the coil pack from what i was told in my last thread. only gets about 9vdc and should pump harder as the bike revs faster from what i understand. i could be wrong. im going to dive into mine tomorow and imagine that i will be replacing the pump with the autozone pump.

It went back to only pumping 1 time every few seconds. I wanna go ride but I don't want to get stranded. I will probably give this pump one more shot and if it quits again I will go and get the Accord pump. I found some relays on Ebay for $29 so I'll probably order one of those too.

*update* I've put about another 400 miles on the bike and it is running well. I ride it every day that it is not too cold out (under 48*) or chance of rain. It has some weak spots in the power band that I'm gonna chalk up to needing the valves adjusted, needs carb sync, and the CCT not letting the timing be dead on.

Ran fine for about 500 miles and then yesterday when I was riding back to work from lunch it quit again. Fuel pump is trying to pump but I don't know if the output is enough.

I'm really getting frusterated. Had to push the bike about a mile to get it back to work. I've got some fuel line and an extra fuel filter I'm gonna throw on there today and see if it will run off of gravity feed.
