520 Stage 1 Drivetrain
 

Just got a new drivetrain off E-Bay from moto-heaven. Gonna put it on today and see how she goes.

It's a 520 chain, 15F/48R

I don't know much about gearing, but 48 rear seems a little high to me. I'm not looking to stunt, and I'm hoping it's just going to add a bit of acceleration without sacrificing top-speed.

I've noticed most people going with a -1F/0R. What are the differences?

What bike are you putting this on ? The gearing changes would compare to doing say -1F/+2R. I'd think with that combination you're going to be able to pull the front wheel fairly easily.

it's a '98 F3. Currently has stock drive-train which is 15F/43R and a 525 chain.

So, basically I'm adding 5 teeth to the rear and keeping the front stock.

well after pulling off the sprockets and chain I found that I actually had a 40 tooth rear...Stock is 43 right?

Anyway, after getting it all back together and taking it out I'm happy. Has a bit more acceleration, but doesn't feel to revvy. Haven't noticed too much of a drop in top speed either, so it's all good.

One question: Is my speedo gonna be inaccurate now?

yes, you will need to order a speedohealer to make it dead accurate, this is the site for the U.S. distributor. http://calsportbike.com/sh/, though i have seen them on ebay for a little cheaper....

I just used this site... http://www.gearingcommander.com/ and figured out how to approximate my speed based on what gear I'm in and the RPM I'm at... it works pretty well.... plus its free! Just use the top menu to select the model and change the final ratio to your sprocket set up... =)

Woohoo! All we have to do is figure out how to eliminate wind resistance and redline our F3s in 6th to hit 249 mph! :D

as for ur concern about revvy, changing your sprocket isnt gonna make ur bike rev any faster or slower... ur just changing the how fast the sprockets rotate which is gonna rotate alot faster... so dont look for changes there

If he meant how fast it will rev in gear, it will definitely affect that. Lower gearing = less time to redline in a given gear. In other words, you'll be going through gears faster.

The Gearing Commander site also allows you to create a "shift chart" that puts this into a visual perspective. =)

Doh! Was in Kph instead of Mph :p 150 eh? Possible tho my gf doesn't like it
