Default -1/-2?

I just got a F3 a few weeks ago from a buddie and he said he geared the bike for racing. He said he went down 3 teeth, so a -1,-2. Is that really a big diff. because it is throwing my speedo off wack (up to 10 miles an hour off, at least that is what I noticed when I got pulled over). Also since the bike is "geared" for racing would it be a good thing to extend the swing arm by like 2"?

Here's the big question: Are you sticking to the track, or are you going to be taking the bike out on the street? Also: are YOU racing? If so, are you drag racing, or lapping?

FYI: standard forum courtesy has you wait 7 days before bumping a thread.

My bad on not waiting, was not aware of it. My apologies.

I am not racing at all at the moment, would like to in future but more wanting the bike to look good, and run great. Looking to do more custom mods like the F3 to F4i conversion. I was not sure if the previous owner was telling me the correct info since he seemed very skid-dish when he was trying to explain what he did. He first said he went up three and I thought going up was more for doing stunts like popping a wheelie, etc... If I were to race it would be drag.

Well, sounds like you need to go confirm what he did first. Go count the teeth on your sprockets and post what you come up with. Stock is 15/43. Standard "race conversions" just drop one tooth off the front and change the pitch, so you really do need to go and see wtf this guy did.

If you're going to drag, then yeah, you'd want to stretch and lower the bike, but that gearing will be horrible for you. You'd want more of a -1/+2. The way it is now, it's got LESS power off the line than STOCK, which is obviously counterproductive for dragging. Also, as you found out the hard way, changing your sprocket ratio renders your speedo useless. You need to either strap a GPS to your bike, get a speedohealer from HealTech, or replace your console with a Trailtech Vapor computer kit. You may want to go with the latter if your swappnig your console out anyway.

Bare in mind that stretching and lowering your bike destroys its cornering ability (not needed for dragging), so it would be far less fun out on the road. Stretched bikes are not for "everyday" riding.

I checked with the guy and I was right he did go down 1 in front and 2 in the back. The guy said he did this config for a more top end. Do you guys thing that it is a pointless gearing? Not sure if this matters but I guess they are both Vortex Sprockets
