voltage regulator heat

Default voltage regulator heat

do these normally get real hot?

i just replaced one that burnt out.... but it still seems to get pretty hot.. not melting but almost too hot to touch....

What do you guys think?

They do get warm...Hot, I've never ever felt mine get close enough to notice.

I relocated my voltage regulator to the front of my battery box to clean up the wiring on my bike since I was not running full fairings. Within a short time it started to melt the plastic! I covered the box in aluminum to act as a heat sink. I think that is why you always hear of them failing as that kind of heat is too much for most electronics. My thoughts at least....

Did you get one with a heat sync?

If not, it'll probably fry again, move it like maddcapper did to somewhere with more airflow.

One broke downon my bike last fall. It was the original part and the new one I bought was not the original type, but with aluminium heat sink, just like in rlowride's link. It's been working well...
