valve question
 

Okay, so its like about to be 2 in the morning and ive been tearing this bike to pieces to clean the carbs. Anyways, right when im finishing the last carb (mind you i'm pretty much tripping balls from inhaling all this carb cleaner, i look into the cylindars (i think their called? lets just go with holes the carbs connect to the motor) and i see the valves, now from order to left to right, the first hole the two valves are up and closed, then second hole the two valves are open or a little bit lower, the 3rd and 4th hole both the valves are up and closed....

So im stumped.. did this bike not need a carb cleaning and really the reason behind me not being able to idle without the choke is that the valves need to be timed? any input would be great, i'm so tired thx in advanced

You so know the valves don't all open at the same time right? I doubt your valves are screwed up that usually is rare even if they aren't gaped right. I'd just reassemble the carbs triple check you did every thing right and see where your at.

^^^thank you very much good sir, nope i did not know anything about valves so i figured i'd ask. I tried trolling all over google and this forum about it but the mixture of late night and carb cleaner is not helping so i figured i'd ask. But i'm going to slap everything together tomorrow morning and replace all the spark plugs as well, oh btw, anyone know what size that plug is? its not a standard 5/8 spark plug tool. (again, brand new to bikes lol)

Actually, the plugs should be standard 5/8". The threads are a bit smaller than car plugs though. I think the thread diameter is 10mm.

I'd just go to autozone bring an old plug to compare with and tell them the year and make of the bike and they should pull them right out. But do make sure that you compare them last time they tried to give me ones with the threads to wide. Had to point out they were wrong.

Welp thanks for everyones help! i just finally got the bike all put back together except the farings (need new battery :(... lol) but at first didnt fire and killed the battery and it turns out i connected the carbs vacuum hose to the wrong pipe. fixed that, tried to jump off a battery from a civic, not turned on of course, and killed my friends civic lol. then we tried my other friends civic and she finally fired up and sounded amazing! the best ive ever heard it since ive owned the bike, the spark plugs turned out fined just used 2000 grit and rubbed em down.

You need NGK CR9EH9 plugs - NGK part number 7502. I happen to have a couple of fresh ones still in box sitting here on my desk. Gap em to .03 - .04in. when the time is right
fyi - if you tell those fools it's a motorcycle plug it'll take you 30 minutes while they try to find the reference book.
