Universal Speedo ???

I just purchased a universal speedometer with a magnetic pickup/sending unit. was curious if anyone else has/had one and how they installed it.

included instructions just give minimum tolerances to work properly, doesnt say where/how to install

any info or insight is appreciated

Is this like the kind of thing you fit to a bicycle? If it is, you need to calibrate it to tell it how far you go with every wheel revolution or better still how far you with every ten or hundred revs of the wheel, which ever one you're fitting it to.

That sounds a lot like the vapor digital gauges I had on my bike. You can mount the pick up on your front fork leg with the magnet glued to the rim. Or run the wire down the whole back and mount the pickup on the inside of your swing arm, with the magnet glued to your sprocket. I found the latter to be much nicer looking (hidden) and more accurate.

i was looking into this today because i hate how big and bulky my analog gauges are on my f3... tell me how it works... i might pick one up my self

Why not just do the f4i gauges? I did it on my F3. Are the F2's any different?

Fearless4x4 10-24-2009 02:07 AM

the instructions have preset wheel sizes to programed into it. didnt have much time to mess with it today, however it will have to go on the front wheel because the wire isnt long enough to travel to rear end. will investigate more tommorrow.

RE: F4i guages, not sure how big they are but the problem with mounting stock sized gauges is my bike has 06 plastics and the stock f2 gauges wont fit in front fairing. the one i picked up is just one small circular guage that would fit nice when i figure out how the hell to get all functions working properly.... now having a hard time getting RPM to read correctly will report back tommorrow when i have a chance to troubleshoot somemore...

thanks again,
