First, is 3500 for a CBR F2 with 11,000 miles on it and in perfect condition. Being that its a '92 when milage says "exempt" since its over 10 years old, it makes me kinda leary...you know that something might have been rebuilt or whatever. Its from a dealer btw.

Second, this thing almost looks perfect, like it doesn't even look as though the seat has has much wear on it. You can see that someone had been sitting on there and there is a slight color difference in bright light, but otherwise, fairings are all perfect, no scratches, does this seem too perfect? It runs great, nothing looks bent, forks are straight, brakes are great, clutch is smooth...ect. It almost seems that the previous(only 1) owner used it only a few days out of the summer.

Third, reliability, how are they? I was between this and a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 500. What are the common problems with the bike? I heard they are kinda jerky at low RPM on the early 90's 4's...anything else? The only reason I am really siding with the Ninja right now is parts are prolly going to be cheaper and it only has like 6,000mi on it. I guess too, being that its an older bike, are there any problems with corrosion and other problems associated with any older machinery? I mean this thing looks way way too clean. The only thing that looks to be warn at all is a bit of pitting on the underside of the exhaust.

Forth, as far as regular matainence, is it expensive being that its Honda?

$3,500 is WAY expensive for a 92, even in that condition. Bikes depreciate and that dealer is taking advantage of the spring riding season and gas prices. Most of us here would get a bike that year for $2k or less. (I paid $2k last spring for mine and it is in pretty good condition) For $3,500 you should be able to get a late 90s F3 or even pitch in an extra $500 and get an F4.

Second, there is no comparison between this and a Ninja 500. Two different bikes and the CBR will probably be more common, therefore the parts will be cheaper. (interchanges on some parts between F2, F3 and even F4 are not uncommon)

BTW, I clicked past 33,000 miles on my 92 F2 a week or so ago and it still runs strong.

 

Yeah, thats almost what I was thinking on the CBR. I was thinking like $2500-2800 out the door with Tax, Title and License. I mean its a 92 for god sakes. Do you have any tips on what do about them stay firm on the price and telling me that they guy had 3400 into it already and me kinda wanting the bike?

Like why would a dealer pay that, I was kinda asking myself that yesterday.

 

I agree that $3500 is too much from the stealership, but there is no way parts for an F2 are more common than a Ninja 500. I own one (the 500). they are everywhere. Same design 1994-2008. Parts are super cheap and easy to find. If they were still making the F2, or more of the F4i parts were interchangable, you'd be right on.

Don't buy from a dealership. there was a guy on the WERA board selling a VERY nice stock F2 for $2500. it was literally as close to flawless as you'll find for a bike that old.

being between an F2 and an EX500, you are looking at two totally different 'animals.' Both will be pretty reliable, but a 500 is slower and has more torque. IMO, this would be a better bike to learn on (and cheaper to find in good shape). There are plenty of people who learn on an F2 with no negative consequences, and I'm not going to be one of those people who say "you'll kill yourself." But don't think of them as anywhere near the same class when it comes to power. (50 hp vs almost 90hp)

Yeah, that's too much. I just bought a 1994 F2 for $1900 with 10K miles in fairly good shape from a private seller. Not perfect, but pretty damn nice by my standards for a bike of that age. He was asking $2300, but cash talks!

RK, I wasn't aware that the 500 remained unchanged for so long. I guess it depends on where you live though as to how many you find. On mine I've needed very little and have found those parts on eBay for less than $25 each time. In any event, I have the F2 and so that's what I would recommend.

FNQuick, I had a good laugh today when I looked at the website for a very large dealership here. They had a 97 F3 listed for $5,800. I had to do a triple take on that one. Wasn't list on those only a thousand or fifteen hundred higher. And this was for an 11 year old bike.
