Default Tensioner/timing

Just replaced the tensioner on the cam chain. started the bike up and it ran perfect for about ten minutes. as the temp rose up to normal operating temp, the bike stuttered out and died. it would not start back up till it sat for ten to fifteen minutes. could this be a timing issue? thinking that maybe the chain jumped a tooth or two. just wanted some opinions before pulling the motor out.

It just doesn't make sense to die after ten minutes if the timing is off. You'll know immediately as soon as you start it. It's gotta be elsewhere...

i was just thinking that because if it was off by only a tooth or two, maybe it would be ok right after start up till it got to normal running temp. any ideas?

You say it ran "perfectly" for about ten minutes. Did it make that awful CCT noise before it died? If it did not, I'd say look elsewhere for the answer.

it did not make the noise. we tightened the tension down till the noise went away. then it ran fine like i said. just slowly puttered out, like it was an idle problem.

I would say to check the jets in the carbs you may have a clog.

well, found out from former owner that the bike does not like to sit still at idle nor be romped on while sitting still. well, after my friend and i installed the tensioner and we started it up, we were doing both of those. so after letting the bike sit for a couple days...it runs great...consistently.

Needs a carb clean out, and probably tank too. Almost no doubt about it.
