Steering lock
 

Ok, new question on my bike. I know I have a steering lock on my bike. How does it work? Turn the handle bars to one side, put key in and push down then turn counter clockwise? If so, I got a prob. Mine seem to want to bend up the lil sheet metal around the top then turn towards the lock point. Any input?

Must turn bars all the way to the left. (doesn't lock when bars to the right)
turn key to off position.
then push in with the key and turn the key counter clockwise to lock position.

You forgot to tell him to remove the key when he's done :)

Not sure how helpful this is, but I have one of those fancy bicycle U-locks, which fits perfectly through the front brakes and tire. One more thing to help prevent the bike from being rolled off.

i had a problem with mine sticking when i first got it. i had to remove the ignition(two bolts, pretty easy) and clean the pin that protrudes out to lock it with a wire brush. also put some graphite powder into the keyhole itself to lubricate the lock mechanism itself. works well now.

BTW. try not to use any oil or liquid lubricants on your ignition. it can gum up and cause your tumblers to stick, messing your ignition up evenmore. you can get graphite powder from walmart for less than 5$ wherever the cut the keys. the tube it comes it sorta looks like a superglue tube FYI.

The only down side is 2 guys walk up with a piece of rebar, slide it through the front wheel, pick up the front end off the ground and walk the bike away like a wheelbarrel on the rear tire. People need to secure the bike to some that can't move like a light pole, tree or strong fence.

motorcycles by nature are always an easy target for theft. but anchoring your bike to something solid isnt always possible. so you have to try your best to secure it with whats available.... i lock the handlebars, have a disk lock for the front and a u-bolt type lock that i can fanagle around the swingarm and one of the spokes to keep that from rolling. (just dont forget to remove them ALL before leaving. saw someone at a bike show drop his $20K chopper because of that.)

short of carrying a hilti and drilling an anchorpoint into the concrete i feel thats pretty secure. if a thief wants it bad enough theyre gonna get it. just dont make it easy.
