stator bad?

stator bad?
I just tested and when I start the bike and give it some gas the volts stay constant. The battery last about 3 days and then dies. Is it probably the stator, or should I check something else 1st? If it's the stator I think it's slowly going bad, so do I just need a new stator and do I need any other parts to fix the problem?

RE: stator bad?
Could also be your rectifier/regulator. Get a shop manual and it'll have specific info for checking out each component. But you're right -- if there's no rise in voltage when you go over 3500rpms then part of your electrical system is bad.
Try this link -- I found it somewhere and put it on my site: electrical fault finding (in PDF)

RE: stator bad?
well I got down to section D in what you gave me, and it sounds like I have to pull the stator cover off to get to the "blockconnector to the generator closest to the engine", so unless there's something else I can check, I'm gonna assume it's the stator.
Does the front fairing have to come off to get the side fairing off?

RE: stator bad?
The chart is kinda convoluted. Basically if you have no AC power coming in to the regulator then the stator is dead. If you got power going in but no DC power coming out you blew a diode in the regulator. Of course the stator is also called an alternator and the regulator is also called a rectifier. Electrical stuff is such a frikkin pain -- hope you find your problem quickly.

RE: stator bad?
if you have the clymer manual it will tell you how to test the voltage regulator and stator using a multimeter. i thought the stator was bad on my bike, i had not opened it to physically look at it since this would be a pain in the ***. have you looked at your connections yet? mine was just shorted from being old. i replaced the connectors and it seems to be running a hell of a lot better. gauge lights are alot brighter too. if the stator is bad you WILL be able to tell when you look at it.
