Default Stater coil removal

Does anyone know if you have to drain the oil before you remove the the stater coils. I need to remove them on a F2
From what I understand you just remove the left engine cover but is there oil running in there or is it dry?

If the f2's are anything like the 929, then the flywheel spins around the stator. Usually, they (the stator) bolts to the inside of the stator cover. In that event, you must drain the oil first. Remember, when you torque the bolts back down, they don't take much, around 6-12 foot lbs.

I pulled the stator off mine and there was a very little amount of oil came out but not enough to worry about draining it.

What i did was keep a clean bucket underneath the side cover when remove the stator and drain the oil into that while swapping the stator. There is only probably a half quart to a quart that comes out. If the bucket is clean just dump it back into the oil fill.
