replacement rectifier?
 

So, my rectifier fried. I think this is true because when i got home from a ride there was a high pitched sound coming from under the seat and a funky smell coming from the battery. It was all hot as hell, too

I'm looking at Ebay and see a bunch of options. from $10 to 100. 'm not one to buy the most expensive thing just to do it, the bike does not get ridden all that much lately.

Any ideas which one of these might work well enough?

Check out the regulator/rectifier sticky. The suzuki ones supposed to be alot better. I bought a suzuki one just to have on hand when needed. The suzuki one has female connector which wont allow it to "just plug in" and the wires are in the wrong place. But if you remove the walls of the female plug and depin the wires and switch them around to where they will match up to the proper honda wires then it will plug in. But without the snap lock thingy. I would put a zip tie around it to hold the plug together.

I bought a genuine R/R over 6 years ago and it's still kicking, but I did buy a china one last year just as a spare, my batt died within a few days and it was leaking some resin looking sht all over the place, so avoid the cheap ones.

i got the $25 one from Ebay. another thread on here claimed it was good

Id say go with the stock RR just because i have used one of the ebay ones with the upgraded heat sinks and it only lasted one season. Then i went the gsxr 1000 route and it worked great for a while until i upgraded to HID head light and after hours of tedious electrical mapping, i found that the ballast was being overloaded by a RR that was sending to much DC into the ballast causing the preprogramed falesafe to shut down once i went above 2.5k rpms. You need to remember the f2s are over 20 years old. A new OEM RR is perfect for the job, they usually last 20+ years....

Exactly Muthanlaw, It's the kind of part that will fail at the worst possible time and will leave you stranded. Not something you want to cheap out on.

looks like I'm keeping this bike for a while so i will probably get the OEM soon. The Ebay one works fine but I have not been able to ride much due to work overload. could be sawdust and glue and tinfoil in there for all I know
